Writing
Even in childhood I could be found furiously journaling about my daily trials and tribulations, or typing up romance stories on the family computer… Now, I spend a great deal of my work day writing as the InDowncity Community Affairs and Social Media Manager.
WRITING FOR MARKETING
As a communications and marketing professional, I’ve written countless press releases, social media captions, and copy for both digital and traditional marketing promotions. And the audiences have truly varied: from public library patrons, to private school families, to—currently—the wider Providence, RI community on behalf of InDowncity. Each week, I update the InDowncity website with fresh content; this includes articles about mocktails in Providence, news about business openings (including the relocation of a beloved cafe), and seasonal gift guides.
FREELANCE WRITING
As a contributing writer for over four years for Book Riot, I wrote 70+ pieces about reading, libraries, publishing, and more. Subjects ranged from book character quizzes, to timely reading recommendations, to in-depth news pieces. I’ve also written for Serious Eats and A Merry Loner. (Who’d have thought I’d ever admit to how reading Amish fiction as a kid led me to accept myself and my love for romance? Or that I’d be sharing how to have fun going to weddings solo?)
POETRY & CREATIVE WRITING
My poems have been included in two anthologies–Missing Providence: A Frequency Anthology, and City & Sea– both published by Frequency Writers. In 2017 and 2018, my short stories placed 2nd and 1st, respectively, in the University of Rhode Island's Nancy Potter Short Story Contest. In 2016, an original poem was named the Phi Theta Kappa New England Regional Honors Anthology Best Submission. I previously served as Managing Editor of Ether(bound) Magazine at the University of Rhode Island.
